Shin Min | P21
Project Title: Ew! There is hair in the food!!
Installation View
Shin Min’s work delves into the harsh realities endured by women in South Korea’s high-pressure service and corporate sectors, drawing from her personal experiences working at Starbucks and McDonald’s. Her winning project feature “Semi” series, a collection of sculptures depicting female workers in uniforms and hairnets, symbolizing labor constraints and conformity. “Semi” is Shin Min’s adopted English name, a common practice in South Korea’s service industry where workers are often required to use Western names. The series transforms Shin Min’s story into a broader critique of societal inequities, serving as self-portraits and a tribute to women’s perseverance within rigid societal structures.
